Civil Rights Compliance

The Office of Civil Rights ensures a safe, inclusive, and equitable environment for all students and employees within Miami-Dade County Public Schools. It oversees the district’s compliance with federal and state non-discrimination laws, addresses complaints related to harassment or discrimination, and promotes awareness through training and resources. The office serves as a vital support system, helping protect the rights of the school community while fostering respect and accountability across the district.

For each program at Lindsey Hopkins Technical College, we provide students and potential students general information pertaining to the following:

  • Length of program
  • Course completion time
  • Average cost for in-state and out-of-state tuition
  • Number of students borrowing money
  • Average earning potential
  • Filed of employment
  • Whether no not the program meets licensure requirements in the state of Florida

Registration Requirements and Procedures

  • Students wishing to register in Adult Education Program, must be 16 years of age or older and withdrawn from K-12 school. All students must complete a Data Input Registration Form #3999 http://forms.dadeschools.net/webpdf/3999.pdf
  • Proof of residency is no longer required for Adult General Education students (ESOL, ABE, AAAE, and GED), but students must present some form of picture identification (ID) in order to be registered. A student must pay a flat rate of $30.00 tuition, $8.00 test fee and a $5.00 ID per trimester.
  • The tuition rates and proof of residency requirements for students registering for Career/Technical Education (CTE) programs remain as indicated below:
    • Students registering for CTE programs will still be required to prove Florida Residency to qualify for instate tuition.
  • The established registration procedures for verifying Florida Residency for post-secondary CTE students will remain in effect. School site personnel will use the following guidelines:
  • This process should also be followed for AGE students that can provide proof of Florida Residency for tuition purposes at the time of registration, should they decide to enroll in CTE programs in the future.

  • Intake staff should strictly adhere to the following guidelines when registering a student/applicant that is attempting to prove 12 consecutive months of Florida Residency:

Unacceptable documents: Birth certificates, Library Cards, Bank Statements, Shopping/Rental Club Cards, Hunting/Fishing Licenses, Concealed Weapon/Gun Permit.

Acceptable documentations are categorized as group A and group B:

  • Florida I.D. or Florida Driver’s License

  • Vehicle Registration

  • Proof of Homestead Exemption

  • Proof of Permanent Home

  • Voter’s Registration Card

  • Proof of Full-Time Employment for past 12 months

  • Certified Letter from Agency

  • Certificate of Domicile

  • Enrollment in an Educational Institution

  • Lease Agreement

  • High School Transcript

  • Membership in Florida-based Organization

  • Florida Incorporation (12 prior months)

  • Professional or Occupational License

  • Utility Bill

(Document cannot be less than 1 year old)

Note: One of the two pieces of documentation must be from group A.

Students With Disabilities
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 states that, “No qualified handicapped person, shall on the basis of handicap, be excluded from participation in, be denied benefits of, or otherwise be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity which receives or benefits from federal assistance”. If it is determined that an individual is a qualified person with a disability, then the school will develop a 504 Accommodation Plan to ensure equal access to the instructional program.

The Student Services program offers services for students with special needs. Services for traditional post-secondary adult students with disabilities are provided in the regular adult/technical classroom. They are provided to students who self-identify, provide documentation, and request accommodations. The accommodations are provided via the Section 504 Accommodation Plan for Post-Secondary Adult Vocational Education Students. Students may request accommodation by speaking to an adult/vocational counselor. 

Student Services Department

Our Student Service department is dedicated to assisting students to reach their academic and career goals. The Student Services department is the first place to go to begin your journey at Lindsey Hopkins Technical College.

Our Student Services staff offers a diverse range of services to support student success. Those services complement the learning that takes place in the classroom and enhances the overall educational experience of our students.

Student Services is comprised of the following offices:

  • Financial Aid
  • Guidance & Counseling Services (Adult Students with Disabilities (ASD/504 Veteran Affairs, Homeless)
  • Registration
  • Testing

The Student Services department offices are located in buildings C and D, on the first floor of Building C (C-106 & C-109) and the first floor of Building D.

In C-106 is the registrar, cashier, and bookstore. Information about our programs, courses, student records, transcript requests, parking decals, class schedules, and more are found in C-106. In C-109 is the receptionist, and guidance counselors.

Testing

The Testing Center provides a variety of proctored testing services. The testing environment is clean, quiet, provides a low distraction comfortable testing atmosphere. The testing center offers the following assessment: Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE), Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS), Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems (CASAS), National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and General Education Development (GED®).

The Testing Department office is located in Building D, Room 107.

Tuition and Fees
Tuition Fees to pay per each trimester are as follows:

Identification (ID) Fee: $5 per trimester

  • Adult General Education Fee: $30 per term
  • Adult General Education Test Fee: $8 per Trimester
  • Application Fee $15 per trimester
  • Resident students’ vocational tuition: $2.56 per hour
  • Non-resident students’ vocational tuition: $10.25 per hour
